Evaluations

Every child and every family has different needs, which is why there is no standard way of doing evaluations.  In the initial (in-person or telephonic) interview with the parents or guardians, we will discuss what your concerns are, what kind of support the family needs, how the child responds to "testing" situations, whether we need a full assessment or whether background info and functional or play observations will be adequate to create goals and a support plan going forward.

A new evaluation may (but doesn't have to) include:

  • An intake interview over the phone or in person

  • A background questionnaire completed by the child's primary caregiver/s

  • A Sensory Profile or Sensory Processing Measure completed by the parents/guardians, the school, or the childcare provider

  • A telephone conversation with the child's childcare provider or classroom teacher

  • A play observation for 30-45 minutes

  • Standardized testing

  • Clinical observations

  • A functional observation at school or at home

  • A detailed summary report of the above

  • A home program with recommendations of how to support the child at home

  • Recommendations for the day care centre or the school

If individual OT sessions are recommended, treatment sessions will happen in blocks of 4 sessions, 8 sessions, or 12 sessions, before re-assessing and discussing the way forward.

I honour and respect the peoples and the lands of the Tla’amin Nation that I am grateful to work and live on. I am fully committed to study, embrace, and apply the Tla'amin Service Model in my work with all indigenous children and families.
