Nancy Van Zyl

Graduated in 2003 at the University of Stellenbosch in the Western Cape, South Africa

Completed her Ayres Sensory Integration training through the South African Institute of Sensory Integration (SAISI) in 2006.

Completed ACOTRO's SEAS process, wrote the National Occupational Therapy Certification Examination (NOTCE), and obtained full licensure to practice in Canada in 2022.

On the Registry of Autism Service Providers (RASP) in BC, Canada.

My Story

I was born, raised, and schooled in South Africa, which I am pretty sure is one of the most vibrant and beautiful places on earth. Over the past eleven years my family and I have happily settled into living in Powell River/qathet on BC's Sunshine Coast. We are grateful for how the people of this special coastal town have welcomed us and made us feel at home here too. Our hearts can belong to two places, I'm learning.

Since qualifying as an OT twenty-three years ago, I have curiously gained experience, skills, and knowledge in working with children with diverse support needs. I am excited to continue learning and growing as a therapist in the ever-evolving landscapes of neuro-science and human development.

Over the years I have been continuously inspired by the commitment, dedication, compassion, and impact of many OT's who have crossed my path or whom I have admired from afar. Thank you to each one of them for inspiring and guiding me, for believing in OT, and for making the magic undeniable.

Outside of work, I love reading, hiking, browsing local stores and craft markets, or spending time with my favourite people; my husband and our three children, my dear parents, and my wonderful friends.

My Approach

I believe that every child deserves to be loved and accepted exactly the way the are. Because I understand that every person's brain and body processes the world differently, I celebrate that every child responds to life in a unique way.

I always use the child's interests and motivations as starting point for gaining skills that will build resilience and help them live their most competent and meaningful life.
